Engine Oil

Engine oil is a specially formulated lubricant that circulates through an internal combustion engine to reduce friction between moving parts. By forming a thin film, it prevents metal‑to‑metal contact, dissipates heat, and helps maintain optimal combustion efficiency. The oil also scavenges combustion byproducts and filters them out, protecting pistons, bearings, and camshafts from wear and corrosion under varying airflow and pressure conditions.

Engine oil is drawn from the sump, pumped through the engine block and cylinder head, and returns to the sump after passing through the oil filter. Its viscosity and additive composition are selected to keep the oil film intact at high temperatures while still allowing low‑temperature starting. Failure to maintain proper oil level or using incorrect viscosity can lead to increased wear, overheating, and eventual engine failure. Regular oil changes and filter replacement are essential to preserve lubrication and engine longevity.
