Oil Automat
The oil automat, commonly known as the oil pump, is a mechanical component that circulates engine oil throughout the internal combustion engine. Its primary role is to provide continuous lubrication to pistons, bearings, camshafts, and other moving parts, reducing friction and dissipating heat. By maintaining proper oil pressure and flow, the pump ensures that critical components operate within specified tolerances, thereby supporting efficient combustion and preventing premature wear in real–world driving conditions.
The oil pump is typically driven by the engine crankshaft via a gear or chain system, positioned near the bottom of the engine block. It delivers oil through a network of galleries and passages to bearings, cylinder walls, and valve train components. Failure of the pump can lead to low oil pressure, resulting in increased wear, overheating, and potential engine seizure. Regular inspection of the pump’s seal integrity and monitoring of oil pressure gauges are essential maintenance practices that help prevent catastrophic failure.
